Windows XP

Add your logo in the start menu ! UPDATED !

Customize Win XP This is a pretty rare XP trick.
Have you used someone's new Hewlett Packard with their OEM version of Windows XP? You've seen that HP has their own icon in the Start Menu, underneath Run, that goes to their Help Site. Now, you can have your icon that does anything you want (website, program, etc) and says anything you want. You are highly customizing Windows XP (Home or Pro), great for if you are a computer builder and sell them, or you just want to make Windows XP your own. It involves Regedit. Click here to read the instructions in a new window. Be careful using the registry. If you are unsure, make a back up of your files before to do this.

Get more processing power :
In the Run box, type "Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks" (without quotes!). This frees up any idle tasks running in the background so that Windows XP can devote its full attention to what you want it to do. For example playing graphic intensive games.

Change the text in Internet Explorers title bar to anything you want :
In regedit navigate to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Internet Explorer > Main
Change the value of the string "Window Title" to whatever you want on the title bar of Internet Explorer - to have no title except the title of the web pages you are browsing do not enter anything for a value.

Increase BROADBAND :
This is for broad band connections. I didn’t try it on dial up but might work for dial up.
make sure your logged on as actually "Administrator". do not log on with any account that just has administrator privileges.
start - run - type gpedit.msc
expand the "local computer policy" branch
expand the "administrative templates" branch
expand the "network branch"
Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler" in left window
in right window double click the "limit reservable bandwidth" setting
on setting tab check the "enabled" item
where it says "Bandwidth limit %" change it to read 0
Effect is immediate on some systems, some need to re-boot. This is more of a "counter what XP does" thing. In other words, programs can request up to 20% of the bandwidth be reserved for them, even with QoS disabled, this is no big deal and most programs do not request it. So, although QOS has caused a big fuss because people think it reserves 20% of their bandwidth, you can still disable it, just to be sure.

Microsoft Power Toys for
Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows 98, and Windows 95

  1. Download TweakUI (version 1.33).

  2. Unzip tweakui.zip using an unzip utility, such as winzip or PowerArchiver (free, open all formats), and place the files in a new folder in a convenient location, such as your desktop.

  3. Right-click on the tweakui.inf file and select Install to install it on your system.

  4. To start TweakUI, double-click the TweakUI icon in Control Panel.

Note: there's a bug in this installer (it's been there since the very first release, except for the new version for Windows XP). If it prompts you to insert a disk or specify the location of the Tweakui files, just point to the folder containing the files you just unzipped, and click Ok.
